A group of Maltese singers have achieved yet another success in an international singing competition. This time round, the Maltese singers participated in the VI International festival-concert of children’s youth art ‘Lake Pearls’ in Struga, Macedonia. The festival was held in August 2009. The festival hosted participants from Albania, Kazakhstan, Macedonia, Malta, Poland, Romania, Serbia ,Montenegro,Bosnia and Russia and had the aim of discovering children’s and youth’s talents whilst uniting children of the world through their folk, popular and classic songs. The Maltese singers managed to place the name of Malta among the winners. Michaela Agius aged 9 won first place from 17 competitors in the vocal category for children whose age varied between 6 and 10 years. She interpreted two songs and was accompanied by her brother Gabriel for the choreography of the songs. Michaela also sang Ave Maria in the opening ceremony and was interviewed by Macedonian National Television. Charlene, Maria and Ritienne Galdes, 15, 17 and 16 years old respectively, placed Third from 24 competitors in the vocal category for participants 16 years old and above. The latter three contestants performed as solos, duets and as a trio. The Maltese competitors not only had the chance of showing their talents across distant shores but acted as ambassadors of the Maltese talents abroad. The group was supported by Stardust Promotions whose directors Catherine and Martin DeGabriele accompanied the singers.
