MALTA HIT SONG CONTEST 2009
ONE TV

Between March and April 2009, ONE TV aired the popular afternoon show, CELEBRITY SUNDAYS which included the second edition of the MALTA HIT SONG CONTEST.

Once again, the show registered a very positive feedback from the televiewers and this was witnessed in the Malta Broadcasting Authority TV Audience Survery published in May 2009 where CELEBRITY SUNDAYS ranked as the number one show for the Sunday afternoon among the Maltese televiewers.

Originally 67 entries were submitted for this edition. Only 20 entries made it through the televised semifinals phase, with an addition of 2 entries from the reserved-list at a later stage of the festival.  However, only 11 entries qualified for the finals which were held on 1st May 2009 at Freedom Square, Valletta.

During the CELEBRITY SUNDAYS televised show, singers and songwriters were interviewed about their entries. 

The winning entry of the Malta Hit Song Contest 2009 is:

MALTA HIT SONG CONTEST was produced by Ray Falzon and Deo Grech on behalf of WHY EVENTS.
 

This year’s 11-member international music expert jury was lead by Fegen Chekmac, vice-president of the F.I.D.O.F. organisation, composer and author.

Members of the International jury were: Elijus Romanovas, producer, artistic promoter and director of the Lithuanian Song Festival (Lithuania); Mine Mucur composer, producer and promoter (Turkey), Marie Maloney, director of the Cavan International Music Festival (Ireland); and Guillermo Albelo, composer, producer, discographer, editor, artistic promoter and director of the International UniverSong Festival (Spain).

Members of the local jury were: Alexandra Vella, theatre director and author; Dj Charlo` (club dj); Dj Lito (rock dj); Heathcliffe Balzan, composer and musician; Conrad Briffa, composer and musician; Emanuel Magrin, music promoter and musician; Ignatius Farrugia, producer and artistic promoter.

The show was hosted by Deo Grech flanked by top local models Yasmin and Mandy from Creatrix Model Agency. Norman Hamilton introduced the top foreign guests throughout the show.

The organising team included Deo Grech, Ray Falzon, Norman Hamilton, Robert Cefai, Simone Bugeja, Anna Bonnet, Ray Azzopardi and Ruth Vella.
