ABOUT OGAE Contests

OGAE (Organisation Générale des Amateurs d'Eurovision) is the World's largest fanclub for the Eurovision Song Contest. The aim of OGAE is to bring fans of the Eurovision Song Contest together, exchange information and work together with other organisations to promote interest in the Eurovision Song Contest.

The OGAE International holds three annual contests: the OGAE Song Contest, Second Chance Contest and also the OGAE Video Contest. Club members have the opportunity to vote for the national preselections and also for the international contests.  Rules state that songs taking part in these contests should not be the ones which made it to the Eurovision Song Contest.  The main idea is for 'fun' and to share new local music with the fans from the other 30 countries, where OGAE is represented..

OGAE SONG CONTEST
The OGAE Song Contest is an audio event in which all OGAE national clubs can enter with an original song released in the previous 12 months in their countries and sang in one of the country's official language.

The annual OGAE Song Contest started in 1986 with 5 entries. Malta joined the competition in the year 2000.

All OGAE-clubs are asked to send in a song for this Eurovision-like contest. The rules state that the song must be original, not older than a year and must be sung in a country's national language. Entries from national finals are not accepted.

SECOND CHANCE CONTEST
The annual Second Chance Contest is open for all entries taking part in the national finals and which didn't make it to the Eurovision Song Contest.  Club members vote for their favourite entries and the winning entry represents the clubs in this annual competition.

The OGAE Second Chance Contest is a video event in which the OGAE national clubs can enter if there was a televised national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest that year. The members of each club choose amongst the songs that did not win, the ones that will represent each club in the event.

The first edition of the Second Chance Contest was held in 1987. Malta entered this contest for the first time in 1993.

Malta withdrew from the 1999 and the 2003 competitions due to communication problems with host organisers. The Right Time by Lawrence Gray (1999) and Rain of Fire by Natasha & Charlene (2003) were the entries originally submitted for the competition.
OGAE VIDEO CONTEST

At the OGAE Club Meeting in Riga in May 2003, OGAE Turkey invited all OGAE clubs to participate in a brand new contest: the OGAE Video Contest 2003, with the first Contest to be held in Istanbul.

The OGAE Video Contest is, among other kind of contest, an alternative option to the Eurovision Song Contest created by the OGAE of many countries to make the euro-spirit last longer and diversify even more.

The idea is to have a high quality visual contest with songs from around Europe. Interesting videos are produced in many countries and the purpose of this contest is to entertain with clips coming  from different European nations.

Much like the OGAE Song Contest, all OGAE national clubs can enter with an original song and video released in the previous 12 months in their countries. There is no obligation on the entry for the OGAE Video Contest to be sang in one of the country's official language.
