IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Matteo Aldrovandi - President Of OGAE Italy
(Dec'06)

1. How long have you been appointed President of OGAE Italy Club?

I'm the President of Ogae Italy since October 2003... and I will to remain seated here for a long, long time!

2. What are your comments about Italy's refusal in participating in the next year's Eurovision Song Contest?

Well, My idea of the Eurovision Song Contest is a bit "old". I'd prefer the good OLD Eurovision Song Contest with a maximum of 25 Countries, the national language Rule and no Semi-Final: everybody in the Final Night.

Matteo Aldrovandi

Eurovision Song Contest, nowadays, became a bad photocopy of the MTV Music Award, the only difference is that at MTV Music Awards there are established Singers, while at ESC mostly are amateurs Singers expecially the ones from the new Countries or not famous artist at all. I'm against the new countries memberships if they sing in English. ESC was born to share the traditions, the language, the music of each Country, to show and match the cultural differences.

Now with all the Songs performed in English, the most important part of the Show is the Visual Aspect and people at home vote for the performance and not for the song. So at this point, I don't mind Italy staying out. It's no more a competition among countries, but a competition "who has the best act on stage".

3. How can you describe OGAE Italy Club?

We are a very strong group, with a great sense of Friendship. Almost every two-three months we have small OGAE Meetings for a meal, where we discuss about Music, but also about other matters. We are not Eurovision Freaks :) Can I add also that OGAE Italy worked as a "love agency" for somebody? Mhmhmhm.....

4. What are your future plans for Ogae Italy Club?

Well, our main plan is organizing the OGAE Song Contest European Edition 2006! We are already working very hard on it. We want this OGAE Song Contest to be the best, best edition ever! We are going to produce a nice show, a colourful booklet... then there will be prize competitions.... :) And of course our future plan is to raise the OGAE Italy Family as we are discovering many people in Italy who remember the Eurovision Song Contest and do not know other people to share this passion with. I am always happy when we get a new member.

5. What is your important thing in your life?

Ah :) Tricky Question!!!!! In no particular order: Family... Italian People love the concept of "Family" and I adore when I gather together with my sisters, brothers, nephews and nieces around the table for our long long meals. Then Catholic Religion, as I have a deep faith. And my "job". I'm a waiter in a Cafe and I love my Job :)

4. In your opinion, which is your favourite song of this year's Eurovision Song Contest?

The best song, as I've said at the opening of the interview, must be sung in original language, with traditional music of the Country. So no doubt I go for ALBANIA. Small Jewels of this Eurovision Song Contest. Then Luiz Ejlli destroyed that song on stage with that suit... but the song remains wonderful. Then I loved Spain, Croatia, Andorra and Bulgaria. Maltese Song was not bad, didn't deserve that low placing as it was an average song. There were worst ones!!!

6. How do you describe OGAE Italy's relationship with other OGAE country members? Is there any particular OGAE country with whom you might have close ties?

We have very good and nice relationships with all the OGAE Clubs. When a Club ask for an opinion, a survey or what else we always reply promply. This means we care about the other OGAE Club. There are Clubs who never reply to emails, when you ask to follow an information or an email to their members, they never do it... This is not fair at all towards the spirit of the OGAE Family. I can really say that OGAE Italy is always willing to solve problems, to reply to a question, to help for a Compact Disc towards every club and every single OGAE members who contact us.
I'm always happy to receive emails from other OGAE Presidents, or OGAE members, there will be a friendly reply for everyone. Well, let me just add that I have a deep friendship with OGAE Macedonia Board as I use to spend my holidays in that Country for some years. They are all great and friendly persons. I've never met Deo Grech in person, but he was very helpful with us during the Kiev President Meeting. He's a GREAT GUY :) :) :) Deooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooo :)

7. Can you share with us your memorable experience you had with OGAE Italy Club?

Ah... Uh... Eh... I don't remember :) Nah, I can say that thanks to the OGAE Network I was able to purchase my tickets to attend the Eurovision Song Contest Live for the very first time back in 2002. So that was a memorable Experience for sure! First Eurovision for me LIVE!

And I can add that every OGAE Italy meeting is "memorable" for me. Just realizing that people living in different parts of Italy, very far from the meeting "city", get together to celebrate the Club. They spend for transportation, for train, for fuel, maybe for an Hotel Room, just to stay 5 hours with the other OGAE Italy members, it means they care for the Club, so I'm soooooo happy when I see this :)

8. What would you like to tell to the Maltese visitors of OGAE Malta website?

Hehehehehe First: Send Glen Vella or Gunther Chetcuti to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2007... and.. il-Milied u s-sena tajba.... That's all I know in maltese as I spent two Xmas Holidays in Malta, some years ago, at some Friends in Qormi and I've learnt it! :) Ok... I know it's too early to wish It :) BUON NATALE! :)
